<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The History and Significance of Jajce Mills</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jajce has a rich history dating back to the 14th century when it was the seat of the Bosnian kings. Today, the town is known for its well-preserved Ottoman architecture and its famous watermills.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-683x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-680" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-600x900.jpg 600w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1-1200x1800.jpg 1200w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00966-1.jpg 1440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The watermills, also known as &#8220;mlinčići,&#8221; were used to grind grain and produce flour. There were once over 20 mills in Jajce, but today only a few remain. The watermills are a significant part of Jajce&#8217;s cultural heritage and a symbol of the town&#8217;s past.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-819x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-686" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-240x300.jpg 240w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-768x960.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-1638x2048.jpg 1638w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit-600x750.jpg 600w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC01051-Edit.jpg 1728w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Visitors to Jajce can explore the mills and learn about the traditional process of milling flour. The mills are still in operation today and provide a glimpse into the past.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Natural Beauty of Jajce</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-683" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-300x200.jpg 300w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-768x512.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-2000x1333.jpg 2000w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC00978-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While Jajce&#8217;s history and cultural heritage are certainly worth exploring, the town&#8217;s natural beauty is what truly sets it apart. Jajce is situated at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers, and the landscape is characterized by rolling hills, dense forests, and cascading waterfalls.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most famous waterfalls in Jajce is the Pliva Waterfall, located just a short walk from the town center. The waterfall is over 22 meters high and is surrounded by lush greenery. Visitors can take a walk along the wooden path that leads to the waterfall and enjoy the stunning scenery.</p>

However, if you want to explore beyond the city limits, there are a plethora of amazing day trips that you can take to truly discover the beauty of this region.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-683x1024.jpg" alt="Split, Croatia, old town" class="wp-image-532" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1-600x900.jpg 600w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC07230-Edit-1.jpg 1440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not a day trip but still a great recommendation is <a href="https://frewaphoto.com/index.php/category/travel/croatia/" title="">traveling from Split to Dubrovnik, an awesome roadtrip</a> if you ask me. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Krka National Park</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-819x1024.jpg" alt="waterfall, Krka" class="wp-image-436" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-240x300.jpg 240w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-768x960.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-1638x2048.jpg 1638w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529-600x750.jpg 600w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05529.jpg 1728w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Krka National Park is a natural wonderland located just an hour&#8217;s drive from Split, and it&#8217;s one of my favorite day trips from the city. <a href="https://frewaphoto.com/index.php/2023/04/05/a-photographic-journey-through-amazing-krka-national-park/" title="">It is great for a photographic journey</a>. As soon as I entered the park, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the landscape. The lush green forests and crystal-clear waters of the Krka River were truly breathtaking.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-819x1024.jpg" alt="Road to Krka National Park" class="wp-image-423" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-240x300.jpg 240w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-768x960.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-1229x1536.jpg 1229w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-1638x2048.jpg 1638w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit-600x750.jpg 600w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DJI_0542-Edit.jpg 1728w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the highlights of my visit to Krka National Park was the Skradinski Buk waterfall, which is one of the most stunning waterfalls I have ever seen. The water cascades down a series of terraced pools, creating a magical and serene atmosphere. I spent hours exploring the trails and taking in the views, and it was a truly unforgettable experience.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-1024x683.jpg" alt="Walkway, Krka" class="wp-image-426" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-300x200.jpg 300w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-768x512.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-2000x1333.jpg 2000w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05069-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another must-visit attraction in Krka National Park is the Roski Slap waterfall, which is located further up the Krka River. This waterfall is less crowded than Skradinski Buk, and the surrounding landscape is equally as impressive. I took a boat ride up the river to get a closer look, and it was a peaceful and calming experience.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="645" src="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-1024x645.jpg" alt="Krka, Waterfall" class="wp-image-430" srcset="https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-1024x645.jpg 1024w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-300x189.jpg 300w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-768x484.jpg 768w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-1536x968.jpg 1536w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-2048x1290.jpg 2048w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-2000x1260.jpg 2000w, https://frewaphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC05192-600x378.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But Krka National Park is not just about the waterfalls. There are also ancient ruins and historic landmarks to explore, such as the Visovac Monastery, which is located on a small island in the middle of the Krka River. The monastery dates back to the 14th century and is a fascinating glimpse into Croatia&#8217;s rich cultural history.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the beauty of the town&#8217;s medieval architecture and charming old streets. Walking through the cobblestone alleys and narrow passageways, I felt like I had stepped back in time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the main attractions of Trogir is the stunning Kamerlengo Fortress, which dates back to the 15th century. I was impressed by the impressive stone walls and the breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea from the top of the fortress. It was a great spot for photos, and I could see for miles in every direction.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another must-visit site in Trogir is the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque-Gothic architecture in Croatia. I was blown away by the intricate carvings and beautiful frescoes inside the cathedral. The highlight, however, was climbing the bell tower for incredible views of the town and surrounding area.</p>

I found some unique souvenirs to bring back home and enjoyed a delicious meal at one of the town&#8217;s many seafood restaurants. <a href="https://frewaphoto.com/index.php/2023/04/06/trogir-on-a-budget-how-to-experience-this-croatian-gem-without-breaking-the-bank/" title="">Trogir is a great destination on a budget</a>, with many free attractions.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hvar Island</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most popular day trips from Split is to the idyllic Hvar Island, located just a short ferry ride away. As soon as I stepped off the ferry and onto the island, I was struck by the beauty of my surroundings. The quaint town of Hvar is nestled in a picturesque bay, surrounded by rolling hills and crystal-clear waters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the must-visit attractions on Hvar Island is the stunning Pakleni Islands, a small archipelago located just off the coast. I rented a small boat and set out to explore the islands, stopping at secluded coves to swim and sunbathe. The water was so clear that I could see schools of fish swimming beneath the surface, and the lush green hillsides made for the perfect backdrop.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But Hvar Island is not just about the beaches and islands. The town of Hvar itself is steeped in history and culture, with charming cobblestone streets and ancient Venetian architecture. One of my favorite spots was the Hvar Fortress, which sits atop a hill overlooking the town and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To top it off, Hvar Island is also known for its excellent food and drink. I stopped at one of the local restaurants and enjoyed a plate of fresh seafood paired with a glass of local wine. The flavors were exquisite, and the setting was unbeatable.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In conclusion, a day trip to Hvar Island is an absolute must-do when visiting Split. From the stunning beaches to the rich culture and delicious food, there&#8217;s something for everyone on this beautiful island.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Blue Cave and Vis Island</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another must-visit day trip from Split is to the Blue Cave and Vis Island. I remember the excitement I felt as I boarded the speedboat that would take me to these stunning destinations. The Blue Cave, located on the small island of Bisevo, was the first stop on our tour. As we approached the cave, I could see the deep blue glow of the water and was amazed at how crystal clear it was. As we entered the cave, I was speechless. The water glowed an electric blue color, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After our visit to the Blue Cave, we headed to Vis Island, which is known for its stunning beaches and unspoiled nature. The island is less touristy than some of the other destinations in the area, and I loved the laid-back and authentic feel of the place. One of the highlights of our visit to Vis Island was Stiniva Beach, which is hidden behind a narrow and steep gorge. We had to hike down a rocky path to reach the beach, but it was worth it. The water was crystal clear, and the beach was surrounded by towering cliffs, creating a truly unique and awe-inspiring setting.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another must-see attraction on Vis Island is the Green Cave, which is located on the nearby island of Ravnik. The Green Cave is aptly named because the sunlight that enters the cave reflects off the water, creating a stunning green glow. We swam inside the cave and marveled at the beauty of the underwater world.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In conclusion, a day trip to the Blue Cave and Vis Island is an absolute must-do when visiting Split. From the stunning Blue Cave to the unspoiled nature and stunning beaches of Vis Island, this day trip has it all. So, hop on a speedboat and get ready for a day of adventure and natural beauty.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Omis</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Omis is a small town located just 30 kilometers south of Split, situated at the mouth of the Cetina River. The town has a rich history dating back to the Roman times, and it was once a notorious stronghold for pirates who roamed the Adriatic Sea.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the main attractions of Omis is its stunning natural beauty. The town is surrounded by steep cliffs and the lush greenery of the Cetina River canyon. For those who enjoy adventure sports, Omis is the perfect destination for activities like kayaking, white water rafting, and rock climbing. I decided to go kayaking down the river and was blown away by the sheer beauty of the canyon. The crystal-clear waters and towering cliffs made for a truly unforgettable experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another must-visit site in Omis is the Mirabella Fortress, which sits on a hill overlooking the town. The fortress dates back to the 13th century and was once used to defend the town from invaders. The climb up to the fortress is a bit steep, but the views from the top are absolutely worth it. I could see for miles in every direction, and the panorama of the town and surrounding countryside was breathtaking.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After exploring the natural beauty and historic sites of Omis, I took some time to wander around the town&#8217;s old streets and soak up the local culture. The town has a vibrant music scene, and I was lucky enough to catch a performance by a local band playing traditional Dalmatian music. I also sampled some of the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and locally-produced wine.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In conclusion, Omis is a hidden gem that should not be missed on any trip to Split. With its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture, Omis has something for everyone. So, pack your bags and head to Omis for a day trip you&#8217;ll never forget!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ston</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located on the Peljesac peninsula, Ston is a small town that is often overlooked by tourists visiting Croatia. However, it is a hidden gem that is well worth a day trip from Split.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My visit to Ston began with a walk along the town&#8217;s ancient walls, which are over five kilometers long and date back to the 14th century. From the top of the walls, I could see the stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding countryside.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Next, I visited the town&#8217;s famous salt pans, which have been in operation since the Roman era. The salt pans are still active today and are a vital part of Ston&#8217;s economy. I learned about the traditional methods used to harvest the salt and was able to taste some of the delicious, high-quality salt produced in the area.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ston is also home to some of the best oysters in Croatia, and I couldn&#8217;t resist trying them for myself. We stopped at a small oyster farm where the owner shucked fresh oysters right in front of us. The taste was incredible, and I was amazed by the quality of the seafood.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to its culinary delights, Ston is also home to several historic churches and buildings, including the Gothic-style Franciscan Monastery and the Baroque-style Church of St. Blaise. These buildings are not only beautiful but also offer a glimpse into the town&#8217;s rich history.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Overall, Ston is a hidden gem that is often overlooked by tourists, but it offers a unique and authentic Croatian experience. The town&#8217;s ancient walls, salt pans, delicious oysters, and historic buildings make it an ideal day trip from Split.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Conclusion</h2>
