Shkodër offers lakes, rivers, street photography and access to the Albanian Alps. Krujë is more concentrated around its castle, bazaar and mountain setting.

If historic architecture and photography are priorities, Krujë is an excellent choice, particularly if you are based in Tirana.
Is Krujë worth visiting for non-photographers?
Definitely. Its historical importance, castle, museums, bazaar and mountain setting make it one of Albania’s most interesting cultural destinations.
Final Thoughts
Krujë is one of the easiest places in Albania to underestimate.
At first glance, it can look like a straightforward castle-and-bazaar destination.
But for a photographer, there is much more here.
The castle gives you dramatic architecture.
The Old Bazaar gives you street photography.
The mountain gives you landscapes.
The museums give you cultural photography.
And the elevated position gives you enormous views across the Tirana plain toward the Adriatic.
The combination is what makes Krujë special.
I would particularly recommend staying overnight if photography is your main reason for visiting.
Arrive before the streets become busy.
Photograph the Old Bazaar in soft morning light.
Spend the middle of the day exploring the museums and castle.
Then return to the viewpoints in the late afternoon.
As the sun drops, the stone walls become warmer, the mountains become more atmospheric and the landscape opens up toward the Adriatic.
Then don’t put your camera away.
Stay for blue hour.
For me, the ideal Krujë photography day would be:
Sunrise at the castle → Old Bazaar → museums → street photography → Mount Krujë → sunset from the castle → blue hour in the bazaar.
That gives you a complete photographic story of one of Albania’s most historically important towns.
And Krujë works particularly well as part of a larger Albania photography road trip.
After Krujë, continue north toward Shkodër, then into the dramatic landscapes of Theth and Valbona.
